RecordingProfessional tracking for bands, vocals, and individual instruments, with session preparation and comping included.
Preparing for your session
Whenever possible, microphones and equipment are set up before you arrive. We’ll check levels and headphone mixes before recording, and can audition vocal microphones or experiment with mic placement and instrument tones when the music calls for it. If recording to a scratch or backing track, please send it at least 24 hours in advance so I can prepare the session.
Full bands & overdubs
For live-band sessions, I generally aim to capture a strong rhythm-section performance, especially the drums. If we get keeper bass or guitar tracks at the same time, great; otherwise, we can build on that performance with bass and guitar overdubs, followed by vocals. Individual instrument and vocal sessions are also welcome, and the process is flexible to suit your project.
Comping is included
Comping means selecting the best moments from multiple takes to create the final performance. I prefer to make these decisions with the artists present, typically comping drums before overdubs and, when time allows, lead instruments and vocals during the session. If we run out of time, I’ll finish the comps afterward and send them for your approval before mixing. Comping is included whether it happens during or after the session.
Your recordings & rough mixes
You’re entitled to copies of your original, unprocessed recordings for archiving, future remixing, or working with another engineer. An optional rough mix provides a reference balance to help you listen and evaluate the recording, rather than a substitute for a full professional mix. We can discuss this when planning your session.
ProductionCreative development, arrangement support, performance refinement, editing, and preparation for mixing.
From ideas to recordings
Production is a collaborative process shaped by your project. We might refine a song’s structure, explore arrangements and instrumental parts, or develop the tones and textures that bring it together. Pre-production can be booked separately or happen naturally alongside recording.
Editing & mix preparation
Production also includes the work that takes raw performances toward a mix-ready recording, such as drum editing, timing adjustments, vocal tuning, pitch correction, and track cleanup. Some artists need a creative partner throughout; others simply need their recordings prepared for mixing. We’ll agree on the scope of the work in advance, always keeping your artistic vision at the center.
MixingClarity, depth, and balance for music recorded at THE MIX DOC, another studio, or at home.
Getting started
We’ll discuss your goals and reference tracks, then review the recordings. For remote projects, you’ll provide the individual audio tracks. If editing, tuning, or additional production is needed before mixing, we’ll discuss and agree on that work first.
Building the mix
Using analog outboard equipment alongside modern digital tools, I’ll shape the balance, depth, dynamics, and character of the song while preserving the feel of the performances.
Revisions
Every mix includes up to three rounds of revisions. Each round can cover a consolidated set of changes to levels, EQ, dynamics, effects, or overall balance. Further revisions or substantial arrangement and production changes may cost extra, with any charges discussed and agreed upon beforehand.
Mastering & final delivery
For commercial releases, I generally recommend a dedicated mastering engineer for a fresh perspective and specialized final stage. If you prefer to keep the process in-house, basic mastering is available for projects mixed at THE MIX DOC, including final tonal and dynamic adjustments, loudness optimization, and preparation of release-ready files.
Session Guitar & DrumsLive guitar and drum performances for in-studio or remote projects, with flexible track delivery.
Session guitar
Rhythm guitars, lead parts, solos, and acoustic layers recorded using carefully selected instruments, amplifiers, and microphones. With access to a wide selection of guitars, boutique amplifiers, effects, and analog recording equipment, we can explore tones and textures that complement your song. Electric guitar tracks are delivered as microphone recordings, with a clean DI track available upon request for reamping or additional tone flexibility.
Session drums
Whether you want to replace programmed drums, add a live feel, or build a new recording, I can develop and record drum parts that support your arrangement. You’ll receive the individual drum microphone tracks so you or your mixing engineer can shape the final sound.
Remote collaboration & delivery
Send a demo, backing track, or existing recording along with your references and ideas. We can work from a specific part or develop one together. Individual audio tracks are delivered for your own project, with processed versions available when appropriate. Session performances are quoted individually based on your project’s needs.
From the first take to the final mix.
Whether you’re starting with a rough demo or a fully rehearsed collection of songs, THE MIX DOC offers a collaborative approach to recording, production, and mixing.
Working with the same engineer throughout the process means your creative vision stays consistent—from developing arrangements and capturing performances to shaping the final mix.
Every project is different. We’ll discuss your goals, the work involved, and the best approach before getting started.

What to expect from your session.
Every recording project is different. Whether you’re tracking your first song or working on a full-length album, we’ll plan your session around your music, your goals, and the way you prefer to work.
01 — Let’s talk about your project.
Start by getting in touch and telling me a little about your music. We’ll discuss where you are in the creative process, what you’re hoping to accomplish, and what kind of recording or production support you need. Whether you’re arriving with fully rehearsed songs or ideas that are still taking shape, we’ll figure out the best way to move forward.
02 — Plan the session.
Before booking studio time, we’ll discuss which instruments you want to record, how you’d like to approach tracking, and how much time the project may require. Some projects benefit from pre-production—working through arrangements, song structure, or other creative decisions before recording begins. If that’s the case, we’ll schedule time for that separately. The goal is to arrive with a clear plan while leaving room for creativity.
03 — Come ready to record.
Full-day and hourly recording sessions are available, with scheduling tailored to the needs of each project. Evening sessions may also be arranged upon request, depending on the instruments being recorded. I’ll prepare the studio ahead of your arrival based on our session plan, including the necessary microphones, equipment, and recording setup. We’ll take time to get comfortable, dial in sounds, and make sure everyone has the headphone mix they need before recording. From there, we’ll work at a pace that serves the music, whether that means capturing a full-band performance or building tracks one instrument at a time.
04 — Where do we go from here?
At the end of the session, we’ll review what we’ve accomplished and discuss the next steps. Depending on your project, that might mean additional overdubs, editing, production, or moving into the mixing stage. The goal is to keep the process clear and collaborative from the first conversation through the finished recording.

Start wherever you are.
Whether you’re recording a new song from scratch, bringing existing recordings to life with a professional mix ready for commercial release, or adding live guitar and drum performances to complete your arrangement, we can tailor the process to your music and your goals.
