What does the recording process look like?

For solo artists, duos, singer/song-writers:

  • I can record vocals, guitars, or any of your portable string or wind instruments at my home studio. Prior to your recording session, we will discuss your goals and come up with a plan for your session.  This will allow me to set up and have equipment (microphones/preamps/etc.) ready to audition when you arrive.

For a full band/drums:

  • Performed at a recording location of your choice - typically a rehearsal studio in one of the boroughs (I have several that I frequent and can recommend).  I'd advise bringing your own cymbals and snare as the quality at some locations may vary.

  • I will transport my portable recording rack and microphones to the recording location and will set up before you arrive. I'd recommend booking for a 6 hour slot to allow time for set-up, tracking, and ensuring you are happy with your takes.

  • On occasion, some tracks need some clean-up and overdubs need to be recorded.  This can be done at a later date at my home studio and is included in the initial recording fee.

After the recording session:

  • Following your session, I will comp (piece together the best parts of each take) and edit (time and pitch correct) your tracks, and supply you with the audio files.

  • In music production, recording is only the first step- the tracks will need to mixed and mastered. This involves combining individual instrument tracks together into one stereo track, creating balance between individual elements, and processing your mix into its final form so its ready for distribution.
